Perhaps the most famous of the three major islands, which are part of the municipality of Venice, is Murano. Founded around 900 A.D. it had its greatest glory between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, when the city of Venice decided to transfer the glassworks, which became increasingly dangerous to keep in the city, because of the frequent fires that provoked. The Venetian glassmaking was so important even that the master glassmakers were forbidden to leave the city and had the obligation of residence in Murano prior to imprisonment.

Also founded around 900 A.D., characterized by its brightly coloured buildings and by the local handicraft that produces superb lace and by the famous biscuits called “bussolai”.

Of the three islands, it is perhaps the least known, but it is certainly the oldest and the most important from an archaeological point of view. It dates its birth around the fifth century A.D. with the movement in this area of the Altini who sought refuge from the raids of the Huns. This island offers visitors mosaics from the Byzantine era of fine workmanship.

30 km from Venice, with 13 km of beach, more than 350 hotels and the longest pedestrian island in Europe (almost 9 km), the Lido di Jesolo is the third busiest beach in Italy. The panorama of Jesolo offers many proposals to the many tourists who flock to this beach every year. Not only shopping and entertainment, but also culture and sports. In addition to the activities that can be done on the beach, many more await you on a rainy day.
